What is one of the most terrifying skills you need when speaking in English? Many students would relate to this: speaking on the phone. There’s no help from body language or facial expressions- all you have is your ears so your listening skills have nowhere to hide. We’ve been working on our phone skills in Upper-Intermediate this week along with another tricky area, business. We’ve acquired some formal speech patterns with ‘would’ and ‘the future continuous’ and some specific vocabulary for talking about the world of work. Hopefully, our Upper B students now have a little bit more confidence communicating in a professional environment and can go forward and put it to good use in the real world.
