Test Tips by Cassandra

Taking exams is one of the most nerve-wracking parts of studying a language. But don’t worry, here are some great tips to help you on your way to acing those exams!

Before the exam, it goes without saying that studying is crucial! One fun way to study is to choose a text, for example a newspaper article, an online blog, a cookbook or a novel. Try to read it WITHOUT using a dictionary (you will NOT be able to rely on your dictionary during the exam!). If you didn’t understand every word of the text, but you understood the general idea, you are on your way! You can test yourself by trying to explain what you read to another person. Another idea is to keep a table of the different word formations of new vocabulary (e.g. noun, adjective, verb, adverb etc.) on the walls in your house so you can easily study while you are cooking or watching TV. And don’t forget our wonderful exam workshops will also help you to prepare for your exam.

During the exam, it is really important to RELAX! Take a deep breath and read the instructions carefully – you don’t want to misunderstand the question! Double check your spelling, it might seem like a small thing but you can lose marks easily if you don’t spell a word correctly. And finally, if you don’t know the answer to a question or you are running out of time, don’t leave it blank. Guess the answer. Giving any answer will give you a better chance of gaining a point – and you never know just how important that one point might be to your final score! If you follow these simple tips, I’m sure you will start to see an improvement… good luck everyone!
