In Australia, the 11th of November holds a special significance. At 11:00 am on the 11th of November in 1918 fighting on the Western front ceased. The German army surrendered to the allies, effectively ending World War I. We use this day to commemorate our fallen soldiers, from the first world war, and all subsequent wars. At 11:00 am on Monday we will pay our respect to the sacrifice of those who’ve fought in wars, past and present, with a minute’s silence.
