As well as studying new units of grammar and vocabulary, elementary students have been doing practice for a Cambridge English test called the Key English Test. Studying for this test not only includes the regular study that our amazing students do every day, but also thinking about how they approach the test and what kind of mindset to have. Here are a few of the things that students have learned in preparation for the KET.

1. Think fast!
Each part of the KET has a certain amount of time given to complete it. Students taking the test must learn to quickly figure out how to answer a question and move on. Some students like to review their answers for a long period of time, but in a test situation they must learn to trust themselves and move through quickly. There is always time to check AFTER every question has been answered!

2. Give it a go!
There is never a good reason to leave any answer blank. If you don’t know the answer to a question, have a guess anyway! A lot of the questions in the KET are multiple choice, which means that you still have a chance of getting a point even if you aren’t sure. So go on, give it a go!

3. Don’t stop speaking! (In the speaking test)
The worst thing you can do during the speaking portion is to stay silent! Short, one word answers are a little better, but if you really want to do well, you have to put together some longer sentences. Don’t forget your simple joining words, and, so, but, etc. Also, it’s okay if you don’t know how to answer a question during the speaking, but use your English to express that!

These are just a few of the tips you can use in preparation for the KET. With the right attitude and a good amount of study, you shouldn’t have any problems getting the result you deserve!
