Intermediate and Upper Intermediate students, as part of their General English course, have the opportunity to study Inforum’s unique Presentation Skills program. But this program is about much more than just delivering a presentation. Students have the opportunity to learn about the environment of the Gold Coast, listen and question local business leaders, visit world-class hotel and business facilities, learn the important fundamentals of a great presentation and work together as a team, with friends from other countries and cultures, to deliver an outstanding presentation.
Students will learn the basic structure and vital points of a dynamic, inspiring presentation, including:
- Working together as a team.
- Applying the “hook” (Getting your audience’s attention).
- Presenting facts clearly and concisely.
- Using intonation, pause and eye contact to hold the listeners’ attention.
- Turn-taking and supporting your team members.
- Giving a memorable conclusion that will stay with the audience long after they leave the room.
For Intermediate students, Presentations 1 will focus on environmental issues on the Gold Coast and includes:
- Visiting the world-renowned Southport Spit, home to migrating birds and animals, and learn of the importance of the area from an environmental scientist and the effect of the proposed cruise ship terminal.
- Working together in a team of two to three people to deliver a presentation on whether you are “for” or “against” the proposed terminal.
For Upper Intermediate students, Presentations 2 will focus on business issues and will include:
- Visiting an outstanding Gold Coast business, e.g. the Sheraton Resort, to learn about the business in detail from the managers.
- Learning about important business terms such as SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) and use them to analyse the business in more detail.
- Work with your team to prepare and deliver a presentation about the business, using the SWOT analysis and making suggestions on how to improve the company’s business model.
